Fire and Water, or Should We Say Lava?

The rumors are true and we are SO excited to be opening a new store on the BIG ISLAND  of Hawai’i! We will be opening on November, so call your gals on the Big Island & let ’em know we are coming for them! Follow @sanlorenzo_bigisland on instagram to stay tuned for updates.

Our O’ahu brand ambassadors Michelle and Tatyana couldn’t wait until the store opening in November to explore, so they packed their bags and took a flight over as soon as they could. Their hearts were hopeful, but nothing could prepare them for the adventures to come, including the opportunity to take a spontaneous trip with Hawaiian Lava Boat Tours.

Our first morning, Tatyana and I awoke to the the most gorgeous sunlight in our jungle bungalow.  The birds were singing and the smell of the ocean joined us as we explored our tree house and enjoyed a yummy breakfast.

Next, we cruised to a stunning black sand beach.  Prepared with our dive gear, we set out into the crystal clear waters.  We swam for hours off shore and around to secret coves, where we climbed up rocks and practiced our diving. We laughed and played all day in the waves, it was BEAUTIFUL.

Then, it happened. Our encounter with lava. We met up with Hawaiian Lava Boat Tours, loaded on the boat, shaking with anticipation, and began the hour long ride to the volcano.

At first sight we could see the volcano far off in the distance. Then suddenly, it was there. What can only be described as pure magic, we experienced lava pouring into the ocean. Bursting and bubbling the fiery red molten lava spewed just feet away from us.  In awe, we could barely contain our joy, occasionally dancing and dipping our toes in at safe distances.

We couldn’t believe our eyes and the memory will never be forgotten. HUGE thanks to Captain Kai and Hawaiian Lava Boat Tours for such an incredible, unique experience

I made it to Australia! It’s no surprise that one of the best thing to do here is to go on a road trip. The coast is full of rocky points with perfect waves and beautiful lookouts. All you need is a surf van and a road map (ok, or your iPhone). We started in the quiet town of Agnes Waters. It’s located five hours north of Brisbane, in Queensland and is near the popular caravan park in Seventeen Seventy.

Our next stop was the surf spot located on a massive white sand beach. I wore my favorite ‘kini for surfing: the Kelp Koi & White Sand Sport suit, paddled out on my longboard and caught mini wave after mini wave. I surfed until golden hour when the beach was empty, my arms were tired and my heart was happy. Then we climbed up the headland for a view of the gorgeous blue water below. Talk about a perfect day.

The next morning we continued onwards down south to the Sunshine Coast (yes, it’s as sunny and beautiful as it sounds). The road was long and ran through grassy fields and hills. Kangaroo sightings: One.

Next stop, Noosa.  The Noosa National Park extends from Sunshine Beach, around Alexandria Bay, to the headlands at Noosa. I dedicated multiple days of my trip in Australia to walking along the National Park Trail. The National Park Trail starts at First Point as a boardwalk and spans to the Little Cove lookout. From there, you can walk along the rocks or stay on the boardwalk until you get to Nationals. Then there is Tea Tree Bay, an amazing point break for surfing, and finally Granite Bay. I heard about a secret ‘fairy pool’ at one end of Granite Bay and was determined to find it. Sometimes, all you have to do is walk around a little bit to find these secret spots.

The main pool had a beautiful blue-green hue and super clear, glassy water. I climbed down right away for a dip. There were blue jellyfish at the bottom of the pool that got washed in by the swells. Even the jellyfish are beautiful here. On the way back, I jumped in the water at Granite and pod of dolphins swam by showing us their fins.  They didn’t hang around for a photo op but nevertheless, it was a gorgeous day adventuring in my new Ocean Braided Thong!

Now, let’s talk waterfalls. Most people travel to Australia in search of waves (ok, that’s what I did too), but a lot of people don’t know about the abundance of hikes and waterfalls just inland from the coast. When I heard about a massive 360ft waterfall not far from the beach where we were surfing, I just couldn’t help myself. I grabbed my Fuschia Caged Thong kini and Shallow Reef Studio tee and headed to the hills!

Unlike pretty much every waterfall I’ve been to, the hike started at the top! We drove up the mountain and parked at the top of the waterfall, then climbed down the stairs to the pool at the bottom. If you happen to find yourself on the Gold Coast of Australia, I would highly recommend visiting the Springbrook National Park. It is full of incredible waterfalls and hikes for anyone looking for an adventure. I only had time for one waterfall this trip, but I’ll be back next time for more!

This trip was absolutely one for the books. There’s nothing like hopping in a van and chasing waves in place far away from home. The Australian Coast is full of hidden gems like the waves, tide pools, waterfalls and breath-taking views I was lucky enough to see. I can’t wait to go back!

We are on the hunt  for blog contributors like Moona who have a passion for life and love for beach culture. Please email us at publicrelations@sanlorenzohawaii.com, we’d love to hear from you!
